Well well well.. end of February and only my 2nd post of the month. So much for consistency..
So quite a bit has happened within the last few weeks.. one of it being the 81st Academy Awards a.k.a Oscars.. and boy was it one to behold. Well at least for those who loved the movie and appreciated it rather than get all bloody defensive with "that was a real misrepresentation of India".. or better still, the die-hard Dark Knight fanboys who just couldn't swallow the fact that their obvious pick wasn't the best movie.. Heck, I'm a Dark Knight fanboy myself! But I think they pretty much got the awards they deserved.. Heath Ledger's posthumous award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Richard King for Best Sound Editing.. although I guess they probably deserved the award for best sound mixing as well..
One thing I didn't manage to find much debate on though was A.R. Rehman winning two Oscars. It was incredible watching him collect his awards, and even perform! Oh, and did I mention, he actually finished his first acceptance speech (not the love and hate one.. lol) with a sentence in Tamil! When I heard that I had like a brief "Hell yeah! I'm so damn proud to be Tamilian!" moment.. :D Oh well, I guess you just can't help it sometimes. The guy certainly deserves all the accolades and recognition.. Now if only someone would recognize S.P.B's amazing vocal talent.. Haha.
So yea, I actually watched the film, and I thought it was incredibly well-taken.. I watched it once.. felt it was a real feel-good movie, with a pleasant mix of Bollywood eccentrics and Hollywood calibre. Watched it again.. and figured it was truly a wonderfully-taken movie, with subtle yet powerful messages delivered at the right moments. I guess there are a couple of loopholes in the movie, but then again there are tonnes of excellent movies with loopholes (just check em' up on IMDb, and you'll see what I'm talking about).
Onto more recent stuff.. IIT's AIChE chapter is currently organizing the regional conference.. Wai Kit and myself decided to volunteer (partially because by volunteering we save a heck of a lotta 'dough' on registration fees.. hehehe) which means a busy weekend.. and with tonnes of homework for the weekend.. I'm really having a ball. Will let ya'll know how the conference goes though, if I remember that is (no, my memory's never something you wanna bet on).
Guess that's it for now.. Oh oh oh, and one more thing.. In a couple of weeks I'll.. err... nevermind. Phir milenge.
"I never forgot. Not for one day. I knew I’d find you in the end. It’s our destiny" - Jamal, quoted from Slumdog Millionaire.
P.S: I was suffering with Blogger's layouts for quite some time now.. especially the spacing between paragraphs as some of you may have noticed.. Got tired of it, decided to revert back to the classic template and voila! Para-problems no more! So yea.. goodbye customized looks.. I'll customize it again when I find the time though..
