World of My Own

First two weeks of school have been rather relaxing, quite surprising given how I expected a torrid semester filled with activities and assignments. I'm still prepared for the worse, though. As soon as I got back my new apartment, the bed bugs wasted no time in greeting me with a couple of bites. Hence I've been a little occupied with sending these resilient creatures to the afterworld. Other than that, the new place is really nice, although I must admit my room feels kinda small.

It was nice meeting some familiar old faces around school suring the first week, as well as making a whole lot of new acquaintances and friends among the freshies. My job however has been a drawback - I only get to work 8 hours a week given the new system, which must have come up when my supervisors popped a couple of moron-pills. Now there's a serious dent to my plans come next year. What is even more ironic is that I have been on quite an online-shopping spree since I got back.

I finally decided on my laptop - which I'm hoping would last me for quite some time - the Lenovo T400. The positive reviews online certainly aided my decision, plus I had quite a discount thanks to a friend (owe ya' one). I also got Sanyo Eneloop batteries for my camera, some of the best rechargeables there are in the market. Again, I went for quality and resilience. There are also another couple of accesories I'm planning on purchasing - A Zeroshock III cover for my T400 as well as 2GB of DDR2 RAM for my desktop.

Pictures from the Architectural Boat Cruise and ISO Fresher's Camp are due, and I'll probably have them up next week from my new laptop - I certainly can't wait for it to arrive!

Reboot

Less than a week to go before I jet off back to the States, and suddenly an overwhelming list of things to do has popped up, and it keeps growing. Unlike last summer, this year's trip home has been rather laid back, as I've been able to put all that time into appreciating the simple pleasures in life. I haven't gone out and met too many friends this time around, let alone relatives. I have been keeping myself up to date, though, on a number of issues - ranging from the H1N1 outbreak to pre-season football scores. I've also done some research on energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprints, trying to see if I could implement any such measures at home.

The Camera Blues
It's been confirmed that there will be no DSLR for me, at least for the time being and I'm not complaining. The Canon I've been using seems good enough for me, and I don't wanna be just another kid getting carried away by the current DSLR hype. Seriously.. way too many people carrying those 6 pounders nowadays! (I just heard a voice reminding me of the 'fox and grapes' story.. or maybe I've just been watching wayy too much House these days)

The Future Blues
A few more days and I'll be starting my final semester. "What then??" - that's the question that has been plaguing my mind in recent times, and will continue to do so till the year's end, unless of course I find a job. What worries me is that I still don't have a vision of what I'll be doing come next year, and it scares the crap outta me. The unemployment rate that's expected to keep rising isn't helping either. This uncertainty is killing me. Help me..

C'est La Vie

Hello again! Can't believe it's been more than a month since my last update. I figure I was pretty pre-occupied these past few weeks.. Ah heck that's never gonna fly so I might as well own up and admit my laziness. I stay up all night watching TV and wake up past noon on most days.. life sure is good. Now there's just another 3 weeks to go before I return to the US, and all of a sudden there's a whole lotta things I wanna do before I go.. Funny how I never thought of doing any of it all this time when I just sat watching the time tick away (quite literally at times).

A lot has happened though since my last blog update.. while Michael Jackson's death hogged the headlines across the world, Roger Federer won an unprecedented 15th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and a few more stars faded into the 'White Hole' in Madrid. As for myself, I managed to catch Manchester United in action right before my eyes for the first time when they came down for their tour of Asia last week. I also gave up any hope of getting a DSLR now, and started toying with the Canon Powershot S5IS that has been collecting dust at home for some time now.

I've also been exercising a little, trying to keep myself fit.. but a few days ago I lost a chunk of my motivation. A man I've loved and respected through my life passed away quite abruptly from a heart attack. Very few people I know are as active as him in sports, yet.. *sigh* C'est la vie... I'll miss him dearly.

On a sidenote, I've been made aware of quite a number of deaths recently (including the King of Pop) and strangely all of them have been caused by heart attacks..

I hope this string of posts makes up for my absence. Shalom!
