International Fest 2008 - A World Without Borders

If last week was amazing, this week had the potential to be even more so... but nothing really materialized, so it's ended up as just another week at IIT. I don't think I had adequately captured the International Fest experience for you guys, so here's a few videos I found on Youtube of some of the mesmeric performances during the night. You don't have to watch too closely to notice the blunders in the audio visual system though.. lol. Here we go. (Most performances are incomplete, but it's the best I could find, and I doubt any more would be posted on Youtube any time soon)

First up was the Taiwanese Students Association, setting the tone with a couple of fast-paced songs.

Then came a performance that entertained the crowd like none before.. a Turkish belly-dancing performance.. (Notice the oooh's and aaah's from the crowd.. Hahaha

There was also an excellent rendition of Acapella on stage by IIT's very own Techtonics (I'm still astounded by their attempt at Timbaland's The Way I Are.. great stuff!)

Up next was a performance of a more traditional kind.. A Chinese providing us with the soothing tunes of the 'Guzheng'

This was followed by the Indian Student Association's performance who have never been short of traditionality and symbolism. If you're one to understand Tamil, then you've got an extra dose of entertainment from the crowd's comments. Lol.

This was followed by a short interval, after which we kicked off in similar fashion to the start.. a rock band performance by Kafila.

There was also the Indonesian Students Association's rendition of classic rhymes, some of which I grew up on as a Malaysian.

There was also another performance by IIT Turk. Wasn't another belly-dancer though, unfortunately. :p I love her voice though.. certainly the most powerful I've heard live.

The Chennai Superstars also entertained with a skit on the life of an IIT student. Funny stuff.

There are a few performances I'm missing here, namely Minh's Hello Vietnam, a hip-hop performance by Epic Rhythm Dance Force, and the African Students Association's dance to the beat of Coupe Decale (This was excellent stuff.. can't believe no one posted a video of them).

If you browse around some of the other related videos on Youtube you'll also see snippets of the day event, where students from different countries paraded their traditional foods. Yum! It certainly was a pleasure to be part of the organizing committee for such an amazing event.

That's about it for now. Arrivederci!
